Overview The Frederick Bonnart-Braunthal Scholarship programme is aimed at combating intolerance. It supports research to this end, from any academic discipline. Current and prospective LSE MPhil/PhD students working in areas relevant to religious, racial and cultural intolerance are invited to apply. Structure (up to) four-year award beginning in October 2010; the award has an annual value of £15,000, which will cover fees in all cases; the remainder of the award once fees have been paid will be made available for maintenance purposes; the award is renewable annually subject to satisfactory academic performance; to be awarded on the basis of potential to make a difference in and around the study of intolerance. The scholarship will be coordinated by the LSE Centre for the Study of Human Rights, so in addition to joining the academic department of their supervisor, the successful recipient will have the opportunity to become a junior research associate of the Centre. They will be invited to play a part in the intellectual life of the Centre by, for example, leading a research seminar on their work. Application process If you are not already registered on (or have yet to be accepted onto) an LSE doctoral programme, please contact the staff member you are interested in working with at the earliest available opportunity. Prospective students will also need to submit an application for admission to the School via the LSE Graduate Admissions Office. In order to be considered for the Frederick Bonnart-Braunthal Scholarship, you will need to have a formal offer of a place on an LSE doctoral programme and be nominated by your prospective supervisor. The scholarship application should take the form of the following: 1. a completed application form, which includes a personal statement of no more than 1500 words; 2. a curriculum vitae which includes your academic background; and 3. a supporting statement (in the form of a letter of reference) from your (prospective) supervisor. Overview The Institute for European Studies (IES) invites applications for one full-time postdoctoral researcher on European Foreign and Security Policy for a duration of two years (renewable). Its research focuses on the role of the EU as a global actor and on the interaction between the internal and external dimensions of EU policies and between EU policies and other international institutions and organisations. Professional Development Grants: In support of its mission, IFAR annually provides small grants to professionals from national agricultural research systems in developing countries (NARS). The award made to the youngest woman grantee each year will be designated the Ravi Tadvalkar Memorial Scholarship, in recognition of the many contributions to the organization by IFAR’s first Treasurer and Secretary, his commitment to capacity building in developing countries, and his concern about diversity and gender issues. Camac and Fondation Ténot offer each year a residency bursary to one visual artist, one writer and one musician or composer in order to create new career prospects for artists. Overview The Templeton Dissertation Fellows in Evil in Early Modern Philosophy of Religion and Theology Program will provide at least two one-year awards with the possibility of a second year renewal in 2011 and up to two one-year awards in 2012. Fellows will spend their time in residence at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN, interacting with leading scholars in early modern philosophy of religion and theology, and the philosophy of religion, for the purpose of undertaking cutting-edge doctoral research on their topic. The University of Notre Dame provides unique opportunities for sustained contact with scholars in philosophy of religion, theology, and early modern philosophy—contacts which not only can be quite helpful but, in the case of some topics, are the necessary prerequisites for excellent scholarship in the field. Value of this fellowship Each Dissertation Fellow will receive a $25,000 fellowship award , plus up to $5,000 for relocation, travel and research. In addition, fellows will have joint access to up to $12,000 to select and bring in outside speakers and visitors for short periods during their tenure, under the oversight of the fellowship directors (Logistical and administrative details will be handled by the Center’s administrative staff.) Eligible Candidates Applicants must be doctoral candidates at a university with an accredited program in philosophy, theology, or divinity. In addition, applicants must have completed all requirements for the completion of the Ph.D. with the exception of the completion and defense of the written doctoral thesis, by the time the fellowship period commences (i.e., candidates must be “ABD”). Applicants should be able to demonstrate strong promise for successful doctoral and post-doctoral level research.
