Overview The Evarts A. Graham Memorial Traveling Fellowship was established in 1951 by the American Association for Thoracic Surgery. Funded and administered through its Graham Education and Research Foundation, the Fellowship grant supports study by young cardiothoracic surgeons from outside North America at sites of their choice within North America and include travel between sites. Goals of the program are to broaden overall training and increase international contacts. Each Fellow should plan to have one primary center for his/her activities where he/she should spend six to nine months. The Fellow should have identified an individual at that center who will act as his/her sponsor and assist in planning the course of study at the host institution and at other institutions. In addition to the primary center, the Fellow is encouraged to plan to spend shorter periods of time at other secondary centers to enhance the Fellowship experience. Awards are made to surgeons of unique promise who have been regarded as having the potential for later international thoracic surgical leadership. Since the inception of the Graham Fellowship, 57 young surgeons from 29 countries have completed the Fellowship. The candidate must be a non-North American who plans a training program in a North American center and who has not had a significant training in North America prior to making application. Value of this fellowship The Fellowship provides a stipend of $75,000, a major portion of which is intended for travel expenses incurred when visiting other medical centers. The Fellowship also provides two round-trip coach air fares from the recipient’s country to his/her primary center. The dates of the beginning and ending of the Fellowship year should be scheduled to coincide with the Annual Meetings of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery in May 7-11, 2011, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Philadelphia, PA and April 28 – May 2, 2012, Moscone West Convention Center, San Francisco, CA. The Fellow will be introduced at the Graham Reception in Philadelphia and San Francisco and will be expected to submit a report summarizing his/her year’s experience prior to the May 2011 Annual Council Meeting. Requirements Candidate should not have had extensive clinical training in North America prior to making application, and should be planning to return to their native country following the completion of their fellowship. “Extensive” clinical training shall mean any period of clinical training which exceeds a total of six months in duration. The Fellow should become involved predominantly with observation, consultation, teaching and research at a variety of thoracic surgical training centers during the twelve months. Patient contact will be determined by the sponsoring surgeon and will conform to the regulations and licensing requirements of the state, province, or country in which he/she is studying. A candidate should have completed his/her formal training in general surgery and in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery, but he/she should not have reached a senior position. Overview The Steinbeck Fellows Program of San José State University (SJSU), which was endowed through the generosity of Martha Heasley Cox, offers new writers of any age and background the opportunity to pursue a significant writing project while in residence at SJSU. The Steinbeck Fellowship Program is named in honor of author John Steinbeck and is guided by his lifetime of work in literature, the media, and environmental activism. Fellows may be appointed in many fields, including literary scholarship, fiction, drama, education, science, and the media. The genre of poetry is excluded. The program offers the opportunity to interact with other writers, faculty and graduate students, and to share their work in progress by giving a public reading once each semester during the fellowship. The fellowships afford a stipend of $10,000. Housing assistance is available, depending upon need. Residency in the San José area is required during the academic year (01 September – 20 May). Currently, SJSU offers one-year fellowships in Steinbeck scholarship and in creative writing. In awarding fellowships, the selection committee considers the quality of the candidate’s proposal and any factors that would lead to expectations of future publication and other achievement. The creative writing fellowship does not require that there be any direct connection between Steinbeck’s works and that of the applicant. Overview Since 1999, camac art centre with Fondation Ténot aims to promote creativity and international exchange in the artist community. Camac and Fondation Ténot offer each year a residency bursary to one visual artist, one writer and one musician or composer in order to create new career prospects for artists. Camac is located 60min away from Paris in the village of Marnay sur Seine within the scenic Region of Champagne-Ardenne. This multi-disciplinary creative centre offers a unique environment for visual artist, writers or musicians. Overview he Monbukagakusho (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) offers scholarships to students who wish to study at a Japanese Senshu-gakko or professional training school. The scholarship is for the duration of three years from April 2011 to March 2014 in which tuition and room and board costs are fully covered. Selected applicants will study in one of the following areas: Civil Engineering, Architecture, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Nutrition, Telecommunications, Infant Education, Secretarial Studies, Hotel Management, Tourism, Photography, Fashion, Dressmaking, Design and Other fields Each applicant will receive one year of intensive Japanese language training at a selected Senshu-gakko followed by two years of professional educational and training in their chosen area as listed above. Eligibility and Criteria * Candidates must be a high school graduate. * Candidates are required to register for testing in Japanese, English and Math. * Only Hawaii residents are eligible. * Participants must be 17 – 21 years of age as of April 1, 2011 (i.e. born between 4/2/1989 and 4/1/1994). Overview Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has instituted a prestigious summer research fellowship programme for providing an opportunity to exceptionally good undergraduate students of NITs, Delhi College of Engg., NSIT and BITS-Pilani for Top ten of the classes to execute an innovative research and development project under the guidance of an IIT Delhi faculty. The fellow will register at IIT Delhi as a casual student; she/he will not be required to pay institute registration fees. About the Fellowship Duration The Fellowship work can be done in a period of 8-12 weeks which can be availed of during at most two visits. Support The fellowship will cover the following: (a) cost of travel in the country, to and from IIT Delhi; (b) stay at IIT Delhi during the visit(s), including boarding and lodging in the Institute hostels; and (c) a fellowship of Rs. 500/- per week. The fellow will have to pay the insurance charges. Eligibility Any undergraduate student, who has completed at least 2 years of study towards an engineering degree, is amongst top ten positions in her/his respective programme will be eligible to apply for this fellowship.
