International Students Get a Taste of College Football

Sport Management Professor Nick Watanabe delivered a lecture at Beijing Sport University. In trying to use baseball and football to explain commercial opportunities, it became clear that the example was lost on most students since they were unfamiliar with the American sports. In order to bridge this cultural gap, Watanabe created an event for 150 international students at the University of Missouri to meet with the college’s football team and learn about the rules and nature of the game. At the event, international students will learn about the lives of student-athletes, tour facilities, participate in an on-field clinic, and eat lunch at a tailgate. The hope is that international students will come to understand America’s passion for football, and get excited and participate in college football Saturdays.
